Welcome to Asiancarp.us, where you can find up-to-date information on the efforts to keep Asian carp from entering the Great Lakes. Interest and involvement from the public is essential to preventing the spread of this formidable invasive species. We hope this site provides a useful tool for you learn more about Asian carp, as well as the multi-tiered and collaborative actions underway to keep them from establishing in the Great Lakes, and how you can participate in this effort.
For the past year and a half, federal and state agencies have teamed up in an unprecedented effort to protect the Great Lakes economy, culture and communities from Asian carp. This year, we are planning even more intensive action, drawing on the significant experience we accumulated last year, and taking advantage of cutting-edge technology, new tools, and better understanding of this invasive species.
The extent and effectiveness of our Asian carp response would not be possible without the extraordinary partnership of the seven federal and eight state agencies and other regional and local partners involved in this effort through the Asian Carp Regional Coordinating Committee. Together, we are executing an aggressive strategy that includes intensive monitoring and fishing; identifying and blocking all potential pathways for this fish to reach Great Lakes; and developing long-term biological controls while we work to identify a permanent solution. Check out the Obama Administration's 2011 Asian Carp Control Strategic Framework to learn more about these actions.
We will use this site to keep you apprised of the latest information on our Asian carp response, and to highlight opportunities for you to give us your ideas and feedback. I invite you to keep up-to-date with our efforts as we continue to build on our successes, strengthen our partnerships, and refine our tools and actions to ensure this unprecedented response to an invasive species continues to protect our Great Lakes from Asian carp.
